Dr. Poland graduated from the University of Minnesota- School of Medicine, interned at Stanford University, and completed an aerospace medicine residency in the Navy before his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota. He has performed more than 50,000 ophthalmic procedures and is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota. In addition to his research efforts in contact lenses, lens implants and refractive surgery, Dr. Poland is considered to be a pioneer in refractive surgery. A long-time advocate for leading edge technology and advances in eye surgery, Dr. Poland was one of the first eye surgeons in the United States to perform Automated Lamellar Keratoplasty, Radial Keratotomy and LASIK. Dr. Poland joined the medical campus in Crosby in 1975.
